Creating Cards from Scratch
Creating cards from scratch is what she does. Who you ask? Pat
Scarsella. When Pat Scarsella creates handmade cards, she regularly has
somebody she is met in mind -- in several cases it's someone that has
walked thru the doorways of Inspiration Station Scrapbook Store in
Ovid. The cards Scarsella makes are placed for sale in the shop, owned
by her girl, Michelle McGroarty, and chum, Connie Walter.
But
other times, somebody will request creating cards from scratch with a
particular theme or a card for a particular event or person. Though the
store has a massive online market for its scrapbooking business, the
girls favor purchasers come into the store for the cards, which are
hand-crafted on site. "It's not something you'll be able to find in a
book and say, that is what I want."' she revealed there are several
decisions to be made, from the paper to be used to the specified
elaborations, all of which are available in the shop. Infrequently the
cards are made in bulk in orders of thirty or more. "We do a ton of
theme party invites, with designs like cowboy boots, graduation hats or
bowling balls," McGroarty expounded.
"I assume the flip-flops
were the cutest ones we've done.". Scarsella also deals with folk who
call and need a single card for a particular occasion and will have a
concept about the design they want for the card. The store carries
plenty of elaborations for its scrapbooking purchasers, so Scarsella
has a wide selection to select from.
"We had 3 of these come in,"
Scarsella claimed, holding up a card she made with a stylized flower.
She revealed when she noticed them, she had to use one to make a card.
Scarsella has some fave memories of the cards she has made. "I made a
wonderful card with a squirrel on it," Scarsella announced. She told a
friend about the card she had made, and her mate wanted one mailed to
her. "She lives in Paris, and they do not have squirrels in Paris,"
Scarsella declared.
So, creating cards from scratch isn't too
hard. She made 2 squirrel cards : "One went on my wall. People who need
to make their own cards are invited to come into the store, sit at one
of the tables supplied for scrapbooking enthusiasts, and create the
card or cards they desire. "Anyone can come in and sit at one of the
tables. All the materials and the gildings for cardmaking are here,"
McGroarty said. The store has its own laser paper cutter, so individual
designs selected from a collection of catalogues can be cut on site for
any card. McGroarty declared the store has requests for customised
hand-crafted cards daily.
Initially the store placed its name on
all the home made cards. They shortly learned that many buyers were
covering the store name with labels or stickers, so that the store
stopped putting its name on the custom cards, she related. "People wish
to let others assume they made the cards themselves," McGroarty
claimed.
